You read waves well and you catch most of what you go for. You can adapt to changing conditions and position yourself in most lineups. Your surfing is less about catching waves now and more about maximizing them, and you're really looking to improve your technique on turns.\u003c\/p\u003e\n\u003cp\u003eWe'll be looking for waves with high-quality, repetitive sections — which will give you enough speed to actually practice maneuvers. Most of the group will be working on refining their turns and linking maneuvers together without losing speed. Think: the same wave, every time, over and over again, AND all on video so you can practice non-stop.\u003c\/p\u003e\n\u003cp\u003eAnd there might be barrels out here. If getting barreled has been sitting somewhere in the back of your mind, this is the trip to bring it up. I also choose my trips during the optimal time of the year for wind to help us get the smoothest possible crossings. If we do get some weather events, we either move to avoid it completely or deal with a few hours of rocking at most in a day. The Mentawais are predominantly world-class lefts, so we typically surf more lefts than rights.
