This Malé Atolls boat trip has become such a favorite at Surferelle. Fun, playful rights, and the kind of waves where you can hone in on the fundamental skills that create long-lasting habits and a foundation to build on for the rest of your surf journey.

This used to be my advanced-beginner trip, but now it's Stage 2 or a hesitant Stage 3 (see below).

What Stage 2 (or a hesitant Stage 3) looks like on this trip

You've got the foundations down — paddling, popping up, board control — and whitewater has gotten too comfortable, so you're going for green waves now. You're catching some of your own waves but also missing a decent number of them. You're working on angled take-offs and riding down the line, and your confidence is growing even if it isn't consistent yet.

Or you're technically Stage 3 and something else is holding you back. You can surf, but once it gets over chest to head high your head takes over (which isn't unusual!). Mindset is a huge part of progression, and two surfers with identical technical skills can belong on completely different trips because one of them trusts herself in the water and the other is still a bit hesitant.

Most of the group will be working on wave selection, angled take-offs, and riding down the line while maintaining speed. And if what's holding you back is in your head rather than in your technique, we'll be working on that too.

The Surfing

Super fun, playful rights.

We'll be looking for mellow but high-quality waves — the kind that give you enough shape and time to actually work on something, instead of just surviving the drop.

Being on a boat means we're not stuck with one option. We also have a support dinghy on board for on-demand surf sessions, so we can go when it's good rather than when it's convenient.

I'll be coaching you every day, and every one of your sessions gets filmed and photographed. We go through the video daily as a group, where I'll give you the detailed and honest surf coaching that makes Surferelle trips what they are — and you'll have the space to ask me as many questions as you want so you can feel good about what you're working on for the next session!

The Boat

Maavahi — an 85 ft. traditional cruiser, top-rated in the Maldives, and the perfect boat for navigating and exploring the wave-rich and pristine Malé Atolls.

Three spacious decks and six air-conditioned cabins with ensuite bathrooms. The shaded top deck has panoramic views and is the spot for a morning surf check or an afternoon beer as the sun goes down. There are sun loungers, an indoor games room and a bar, plus snorkeling and fishing gear and the 16 ft. support dinghy for surf sessions or island adventures.

The team on board is a big part of it: expert surf guides, highly trained crew, and world-class chefs. And there's plenty of space to relax and enjoy the views in between surf sessions.
